About the Commemoration

What Is America 250?

America 250 is the official federal commission established by Congress to plan, coordinate, and lead the United States' celebration of its 250th anniversary of independence — the Semiquincentennial — in 2026.

On July 4, 1776, the thirteen American colonies declared their independence from Britain, giving birth to a new nation built on the ideals of liberty, democracy, and the pursuit of happiness. Two hundred and fifty years later, communities across the country are coming together to mark this extraordinary milestone.

The America 250 commemoration is not just a one-day event — it's a year-long series of programs, events, and initiatives spanning every state and territory. From large national celebrations to local community gatherings like ours here in Stansbury Park, every event is part of something much bigger.

🏛️

A National Commission

Established by an Act of Congress, the U.S. Semiquincentennial Commission coordinates commemorations at the federal, state, and local level across all 50 states.

🗓️

Year-Long Celebration

Beginning January 1, 2026 and culminating on Independence Day, July 4, 2026 — a full year of events, exhibitions, and community programs nationwide.
